SO it's a fact. Well, he's 4 now, and my mom by mistake gave him a bread that CONTAINS walnuts, almonds and/or some other nut I can't remember. It says it on the packaging. It's one of those 12 grains or something... I gotta find out the brand soon. Well, he eats it and nothing happens. It's such a mystery. Is is because they are cooked? Or what? I wasn't willing to spend a lifetime accepting that avoidance is the only way for my child. Currently, we have been going through NAET for the past 7 months. The jury is still out (meaning our son is not cured, but our practitioner has healed others), and there are a lot of positives since we have made a switch to an all organic diet with NAET treatments. Our anaphylactic peanut/nut allergic child who was routinely sick with pneumonia, croup and ear infections has managed to have two normal colds in the past seven months with no serious sicknesses or doctors visits. A runny nose with no doctor or hospital visit and no harsh steroids. I was on a quest to find out why this was happening and to try and revers and even stop the reactions if I could. I mean that is for every mom right? But the information is hidden and while we are not yet cured... we have made tremendous strides. I can relate to everything you are talking ...Hello,
I can relate to everything you are talking about! Except I have myself to worry about. I am 27 and have had a serious allergy to pinenuts all my life. I also have asthma. Two years ago, I became hyper sensitive, due to too many pinenut reactions and am now allergic to all nuts. I know what its like not to be allergic to the common nuts, then suddenly have to worry. I could only imagine how hard it must be to have a child to worry about. I want you to know that as an adult, it does get easier. It takes alot of disapline and self control. I carry Twinjects with me everywhere I go, as now the epi is not enough. I also keep on hand benedryl, as I often find that in a cross contamination situation, the benedryl is all I need. A few tips I live by include: always leaving the house with an extra snack. Sometimes I even eat dinner before going to a function, just to be sure I am not left hungry. Always carry extra benedryl in the car, my purse and at home. Benedryl is definitely something you dont want to be with out. I also keep an extra Twinjects at home, just incase I miss place the other. I also find that keeping homemade baked goods around the house, helps me feel "normal". I do find it hard not to just buy a cookie or a muffin. Baking gives me the reassurence that I will be ok eating these treats, knowing exactly what is in them.
As life changing as my nut allergy has been, its also been easy to get used to. As information about nut allergies continue to spread, it is becoming easier to find "nut free" options while out and about.
As far as eating out, I find the larger chain restaurants to be really good about my allergy. In canada, restaurants like Cactus Club, Earls, Milestones all have strict protocol when it comes to allergy orders. I find it important to state the severity, so they do understand this is not a preferance, it is a serious allergy. I have found that I have to stay away from chinese restaurants but most Japanese restaurants are great because they usually do not carry any nuts in there recipes!
I recenetly started a blog where I review organic/natural/eco-friendly products. Because of my nut allergy, all of my video reviews feature nut free products. Great options like Sunbutter (sunflower seed alternative to peanut butter). My blog is http://organic-please.tumblr.com/ . If you have any questions about how i cope, please do not hesitate to ask. I feel that as nut allergy people, we are one big family, all here to support eachother. NO Nuts For My Peanut, I love your blog and will definitely be passing this on to other nut allergy people I know. Thank you for sharing your story with us.
All the best,
Vanessa Hill
Organic-Please
@organicpleaseVanessa hillhttp://organic-please.tumblr.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1271934872028329802.post-29282201596136621442012-02-02T10:30:38.811-05:002012-02-02T10:30:38.811-05:00That would be Great Michael. When he was about 3 and a half we added a baby sister to the family. Our allergist had her tested for peanut at age 3. Up until then we just avoided peanuts and tree nuts for her. It made me nervous because since she had never had peanuts before I wasn't sure how accurate the testing would be. It had been my understanding that the body had to have a least one exposure before an allergy would present itself. Anyway she tested negative to peanut and has eaten it since with no problem. Let me say that watching her eat something with peanut butter in it for the first was very nerve wracking. She is now 8 and has not developed any allergy. Though, by her own choosing, she doesn't usually eat peanutty or tree nutty things out of care for her brother. Good luck with testing for your little baby and I'm so glad that the holiday season was uneventful allergy wise. For us too. :)
NicoleAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00897407426729858556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1271934872028329802.post-66835885452331963382011-09-14T14:04:52.895-04:002011-09-14T14:04:52.895-04:00So glad to hear! I have tried to make my family and friends realize what a serious thing his allergy is. They don't understand that his skin breaks out simply from peanut or tree nut residue being on something. He blew up and the only reason I think he's alive today was that we were vacationing with our friend who happens to be his pediatrician and he had benadryl in his car.
Truthfully it's a pain living with an allergic child. Mine is allergic to all nuts, to catfish, had eczema for a while, is asthmatic and all that is allergic reactions. We did the needle test weeks ago and again it shows severe reaction to nuts. I have hope that it will go away some day, just as I hoped for a child after 2 ectopics, and 5 miscarriages :)
Good luck and thanks!isatrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05445794036714665061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1271934872028329802.post-57050957785399989752011-04-22T17:42:56.746-04:002011-04-22T17:42:56.746-04:00Thanks for your story! I am so surprised that after all the exposures to PB, that he wasnt safe..For us, at very 1st intro, my daughter didnt eat the PB either, but touched it, and probably rubbed her eye, cause within a half hr she had a swollen eye..We are so dumb, we thought maybe it was from when she slipped and hit her eye on her toy chest..I still called the Dr, and it was afterhours, the nurse said its most likely Not Peanut allergy, since I told her the toy chest story, and Cambrie had no other symptoms, and even told us to introduce it again, a week later..When I did, the same thing happened hives first a few with sneezing, some coughing, and at the office a slightly messed up eye, we immediately went to the Drs office, and they immediately prescribed us the epipens, though we didnt need to use it...And we gave her pb, at 27 months old..I thank you for sharing all your tips and eperiences..It is so great to have a support system, I wish I knew of some moms in my area that could relate..I guess I will find more moms in my area when she starts preschool next yr..I also agree with you that I am terrifed of what would happen if she ingested any peanut...Have a great Easter!!!Jamie's Jewelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13681047828556254072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1271934872028329802.post-68730712932492314012011-04-12T10:16:13.932-04:002011-04-12T10:16:13.932-04:00Not like thin mints!
